Physical Exams

Pets will receive a physical exam at every visit to Gold River Pet Hospital .  Because pets age 4-6 years for every one of ours, it is imperative that the veterinarian look over your pet at least once a year.  These visits allow you to be proactive with your pet’s health by preventing problems before they become life-threatening situations.

A technician will weigh your pet and measure their temperature, heart rate, and respiration.  Your pet is examined from head to tail and during the physical exam, the doctor will assess the risks your pet has for contracting preventable diseases caused by internal parasites, external parasites and viruses. You will receive advice on how to prevent disease-causing agents with medications and/or vaccinations.

Laboratory Testing

Early detection and treatment is essential for your pet’s long and healthy life. A Blood Chemistry Screen can pick up a problem before it’s caught on physical examination. Early detection of diabetes, kidney and liver disease, as well as a metabolic or hormonal imbalance is possible with blood screening. Your veterinarian will recommend laboratory testing if your pet is having unexplained physical or behavioral changes and annually after 7 years of age.  Most laboratory testing can be done on premises at Gold River Pet Hospital while you wait.

Dental Care & Dental Prophylaxis

Even though people brush and floss their teeth on a daily basis, dentists still recommend bi-annual teeth cleanings.  Can you imagine what they would recommend if we treated our teeth like our dog or cat does?

Because our pets age much more quickly than we do, dental disease symptoms will start to appear in dogs and cats by age three.  The build-up of bacteria in the gums can cause bad breath, gingivitis, infection and can eventually lead to systemic damage to your pet’s heart, kidneys and liver.  Most oral issues need to be resolved or fully assessed while the pet is under anesthesia.   Gold River Pet Hospital recommends a Dental Prophylaxis on a yearly basis, usually after a pet is three or four years of age.

·         A dental prophylaxis is an oral medical procedure, similar to human teeth cleaning but performed under anesthesia for the safety and comfort of your pet.   As with all anesthetic procedures at Gold River Pet Hospital , a full blood panel, intravenous catheter, antibiotic injection, IV fluids, pulse oximeter, ECG, and blood pressure are used to provide the safest, most effective care possible.

Puppy and Kitten Packages

Just like human babies, puppies and kittens need lots of care and attention. Gold River Pet Hospital ’s Puppy and Kitten plans help you sort through the details and start your new family member on the road to good health.  Starting at 6-8 weeks of age puppies and kittens will need to start de-worming and vaccinations.  The puppy and kitten packages keep your new baby on schedule and frequent visits let us monitor development, ensuring that your pet grows up happy and healthy.

Radiology

At Gold River Pet Hospital , we can take and view X-Rays. This helps the Doctor assess medical situations quickly and effectively.  We also have access to veterinary radiological specialists who offer consults and ultrasound services as needed.

Surgical Services

Surgical services are provided 4 days a week at Gold River Pet Hospital.  All surgical procedures include pre-anesthetic blood work, intravenous catheter, I.V. fluids, ECG and Pulse Oximeter monitoring.  All pets scheduled for surgical procedures must be current on vaccines and will be monitored in the hospital by the doctor and our veterinary technicians from surgical prep to recovery.
